چکیده

This paper presents a new simulation method for flower blossom, which is based on a biological observation that flower opening is caused by a boundary-dominant morphological transition in a curved lamina. We use an elastic triangular mesh to represent a flower petal and adopt the in-plane expansion to induce the global bending. Out-of-plane curl plays an auxiliary role in reducing the curvatures of cross-sections. We also propose to adapt semi-implicit Euler time integrator for fast simulation results, which has intrinsic damping and at least one order precision. Our system allows users to ∗Haiyi Liang, CAS Key Laboratory of Mechanical Behavior and Design of Materials, University of Science and Technology of China. Experimental results show that our system runs faster and generates more realistic and convincing blossom results than the existing methods.

4D Reconstruction of Blooming Flowers

Flower blooming is a beautiful phenomenon in nature as flowers open in an intricate and complex manner whereas petals bend, stretch and twist under various deformations. Flower petals are typically thin structures arranged in tight configurations with heavy self-occlusions. Thus, capturing and reconstructing spatially and temporally coherent sequences of blooming flowers is highly challenging. ...

Transcriptomic Analysis of Flower Blooming in Jasminum sambac through De Novo RNA Sequencing.

Flower blooming is a critical and complicated plant developmental process in flowering plants. However, insufficient information is available about the complex network that regulates flower blooming in Jasminum sambac. In this study, we used the RNA-Seq platform to analyze the molecular regulation of flower blooming in J. sambac by comparing the transcript profiles at two flower developmental s...

Thai Blooming Flower Recognition Artidtaya Suppaiboonvong a Thesis Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Science

The objective of this research is to build an automatic method for recognizing a Thai blooming flower based on minimum distance for finding similarities between each type of Thai blooming flower. The Euclidean distance technique was applied in order to improve performance of retrieval processes. The flower images were acquired from digital cameras which were taken at close range to ignore the b...

Growth, geometry, and mechanics of a blooming lily.

Despite the common use of the blooming metaphor, its floral inspiration remains poorly understood. Here we study the physical process of blooming in the asiatic lily Lilium casablanca. Our observations show that the edges of the petals wrinkle as the flower opens, suggesting that differential growth drives the deployment of these laminar shell-like structures. We use a combination of surgical m...

Comparative Analysis of Flower Volatiles from Nine Citrus at Three Blooming Stages

Volatiles from flowers at three blooming stages of nine citrus cultivars were analyzed by headspace-solid phase microextraction (HS-SPME)-GC-MS. Up to 110 volatiles were detected, with 42 tentatively identified from citrus flowers for the first time. Highest amounts of volatiles were present in fully opened flowers of most citrus, except for pomelos. All cultivars were characterized by a high p...
